cca 1895 Tandem Tricycle
There is a wonderful source of research material on motorised vehicles
at Bibliotheque Nationale de France (Source galica,bnf.fr/BnF) in photo
albums by photographer Jules Beau operating 1890-1913 in the field of
sport and motoring. -- Many
car manufacturing companies started out by making bicycles frequently
as assemblies of bought out items. This photo shows Mr and Mrs Alolphe
Clement Bayard (eventually Talbot
Cars) on a cca 1895 Tandem Tricycle, four foot drive, four hand steer.

1902 Mors and 1901 Bertrand
Another interesting photo received from Mark
Dawber (New Zealand) from
a forum of photos and asking for information on 'La Panne'. -- I
was advised by our Dutch veterans expert Ariejan Bos that La Panne is a
part of Belgium, and not the car as I had thought! He also advised the
cars were not Belgian either. The car on left is a French cca
1902 Morse; right cca 1910 Bertrand.
Morse license plate 715-Y3 can be dated 1906. Car is fitted with very
unusual "spring wheels". More

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:
1905 Renault Model x 14CV Tourer
Another interesting photo received from Mark
Dawber (New Zealand) from
a forum of photos and asking for information on the vehicle.
Suggested not a CGV or Charron, Renault, Opel or Vauxhall.
-- Which is a little curios because as far
as I am able to determine this would seem to be a completely standard cca
1905 Renault Model X 14CV Tourer,
scuttle bonnet and rad. What is a little different is that it is fitted
with a body painted in British type striped paintwork, which
may be confusing.

Ryan from Reimaginarium (Australia)

modified. Vertical levers on steering column removed, but side levers
remain; rear body is completely modified plus side door added; tubular
frame is original, as is bonnet and mudguards, and so is the wholeof
the visible underside.

Standard16'20 Tourer Rebodied
While we were searching for something else, we came across this photo
named as 1905 Standard 16HP Double Phaeton UK. --
We have no record of Standard with unique
bonnet/rad, so contacted our veterans expert Ariejan Bos who confirmed
having this photo in his collection on the back of which was
confirmation that this was a 1905
Standard 16'20 Tourer, four cylinder,
twenty of which were rebodied especially for use of Editors attending
the June 1909 Commonwealth Press Conference.

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:
1906 Singer 9HP Tricar
Fascinating but poor photo found on a forum of old photos asking for
info on the make of vehicle. Unfortunately the original source was
lost. Question was, is it a Humber Forecar?? -- We
have repaired/enhanced the photo and can advise, - No. This vehicle has
side mounted tower radiator, and not many makes used them. With
confirmation from our Singer man Simon Bishop we can confirm this is a
cca 1906 Singer 9HP Tricar, and that
driver is possibly Miss Muriel Hind.

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:
1907 Rover 6HP Two-Seater
Our Publicity Officer Tony Russell (UK) seems
to be on the lookout for photos of unusual cars, and wondered if we
knew what this one was? -- The
car was relatively easy, an early British
Rover, either a 6HP or an 8HP. This
one was a 6HP, as the 8HP had a transverse spring. Unusual numberplate
though. EWE 3 was a a trade plate (General Identification Mark). Our
reg man Nicholas Young advises it should have read EW - E3 or EW.E3,
from Huntingdon, the second E refers to garage allocated.
