:: [ SVVS CHRISTMAS SOCIAL  -   Due December 2022  :: ]
Postponed to January 2023

Photos by Bozi Mohacek.

Unfortunately due to rodents and the sudden very cold snap, Church Farm had experienced three major floods in the new extension where the meeting and the loos are located. The pipes running in the hidden attic ceiling froze in three places which very inconveniently unfroze at three separate times, resulting in three separate cascades of water through the ceilings, through the light fittings and all the electrical switches etc. As there was inadequate time to get everything up and running in time, and because outside was freezing snow, it was decided to postpone the Christmas Social to Friday January 6th 2023.

This year's the Christmas Social, after a few years gap due to Covid, was again held Chez Mr & Mrs President, Julie and Bozi Mohacek. Julie did all the food catering again and Chas and Janet Moody organised and dispensed all the beverages and dealt with the commercial side; - all very much appreciated.  We had 50 people present but recent bouts of colds and flus accounted for a further 10 no-shows on the night.

The official Magazine Report on the Christmas Social by Nick Woollett is at the bottom of this page, below.

Chas made the big sign for the event, and right, Janet and Chas Moody taking a well earned rest after they gallantly volunteered to dispense the beverages and take in the monies, - which they did admirably!! Their efforts made the event swing !!  Many Thanks!

Julie and Bozi Mohacek (Mr & Mrs President) were presented with flowers and a bottle of SVVS plonk by Tony Russell (Publicity Officer) as thanks for again  laying on this Society event at their home.

During the evening a Raffle was held for the Alzheimer's Society for which Mrs Chairman, Julie Mohacek, is a Registered Volunteer, regularly collects, and has held previous benefit events. She was aided here by Christine Scott, right in photo below. Total raised during the evening from both raffle and donations amounted to £252.00, which was extremely well done!!

Two of the prizes on offer are just worth mentioning because the rather nice 12 year old bottle of Whisky was won by Ian Scott who immediately put it up for auction, and which raised further funds for Alzheimer's; see photo below. Another prize, a family tin of biscuits was won by Tony Russell who will be donating it to the Acorn Court Care Home that looked after Desmond Peacock. A lovely gesture on behalf of both.

SVVS Christmas Social

6th January 2023

by Nick Woollett

The December freezing weather and subsequent water leaks in Church Farm conspired together to leave Julie and Bozi no choice but to postpone the 2022 Christmas Social until January.

It was the fifth time that the event in this form had taken place since the first in 2016, with unavoidable breaks in 2020 and 21, so it was eagerly anticipated by the 49 people, including the hosts, who were due to attended this truly delightful buffet supper and social. Sadly, due to Covid, colds and flu, there were nine last minute cancellations. These included our Chairman and Editor who usually contribute to this event.

Great thanks are due, of course, to our hosts Julie and Bozi who were recipients of a lovely bouquet and a bottle of wine, presented by Tony Russell on behalf of the SVVS. Thanks also go to Chas and Janet Moody for supervising the payments and serving the drinks.

Julie ran a successful raffle for the Alzheimer's Society, the prize winners being Peter Clarke, Ian Scott and Tony Russell. Ian Scott generously auctioned his bottle of whisky prize raising extra cash for a great cause.

A most enjoyable social evening enjoyed by one and all!
