The "Wednesday Wander" is a private invitation-only event that had been organised for the past few years by Bryan Goodman and Tim Harding, both members of the VCC, VSCC, and of the Surrey Vintage Vehicle Society. This was a non-competitive event specifically for period 'Vintage Cars'. The event involved meeting at a starting point, being given a 'Tulip Roadbook' navigation instructions, and subsequently navigating the route, and eventually meeting for a communal lunch at the finish. Regretfully Bryan was forced to withdraw from organisational duties two years ago due to ill health so the event was run by Tim Harding with the assistance of Tony Oakes of the SVVS. Unfortunately Tim died unexpectedly and very soon after Bryan died also, so the event this year was organised by Tony Oakes with help of some regular participants, many of whom are SVVS Members. The meeting point was 'The Pilot's Hub' Cafe at Redhill Aerodrome where we were given special dispensation to park air-side on the airfield grass just opposite the Cafe. The Cafe forms the front part of Hangar 9 and faces the airfield. Hangar 9 itself contains a number of interesting aircraft and has some museum-ey bits which are well worth the walk to the rather distant loo ! After a nice coffee overlooking the parked vintage cars and overhead helicopters, Tony Oakes handed out the Tulip Book and told us to get going.

The Wednesday Wander is a gentle meander along the less used lanes of the local area and tries to avoid main roads. The Tulip navigation system used comes from the Tulip Rally which originated in Holland in 1949. The Arrow diagrams show when coming to a junction as where you should be going. In this case the 'going' was to Smallfield, Effingham, Worth, Ardingly etc, and ending up eventually a couple of hours later at the Red Barn in Tandridge Lane, Blindley Heath. Here the cars were displayed in an impressive lineup in the large car-park and a buffet lunch was organised in the 'olde barn'. A lovely day out blessed with just perfect weather!
