The
SVVS Treasure Hunt - March 2011
The 2010 Treasure Hunt was won by cheating foursome of Jackie
& Simon Pearce together with
Madeleine & Steve Brooks who got together in Martha the Monster Siddeley
being hyper completive, and eventually winning. The normal punishment
for such an offence is to organise the next year's run. Fortunately
early on in Jackie's grumps about no one ever having told her
(presumably it is only Simon who reads the Mag), Tony Tester, - he of
the organisers of a couple of previous runs, volunteered to organise
2011. Couldn't see Jackie for dust !!
However not all was sweetness and light because Tony decided to get even
with all of us by setting the starting point as The Prince of Wales in
Wescott (just this side of Lands End) at the abysmally early time on a
Sunday Morning of 10 o'clock.
The concept of the event was a
non-timed non-competitive drive between a number of villages in no
specific order, where it was then necessary to park, get out of the car
and walk about the village to find all the clues. The questions this
year were around Holmbury St Mary, Abinger Common, Coldharbour, and
Capel. Relatively easy and great fun although bit much to
think of noting signs on a specific manhole cover.
Lunch had been pre booked by Tony at the Lamb at Lamb’s
Green, which is a bit of a Tardis when it came to space. The service was
very good and quick and food good value. During Lunch Tony did the count-up and the
tradition was upkept for a further year by the winners being a carload
of cheats driven around by Robing Vince. However they were too cowardly
to put up with the probable ensuing flack that they ceded victory to the
best ‘twosome’ of
Madeleine & Steve Brooks. Er yes, ... them wot won last
year with Pearces. This would seem to suggest that the Pearces were
somewhat superfluous last year, - or something?
