:: [ SVVS Lunchtime Meeting - Red Barn ] ::
Blindley Heath ; October 2024

The Red Barn at Blindley Heath is a very popular eatery with a lovely smart separate barn restaurant and has a nice big roomy shingled car park. The large yurty pagoda outside which was much used during the Covid era, including by us on a couple of occasions, has been re-instated after an absence. The pub can sometimes be quite packed and getting a table to have lunch can be quite difficult. It is always safest to book a table if intending to eat. A number of our Members lunch here and advise that the food and the beer is good.

The Red Barn is also our last outside mid-month meeting venue of the year and signals that Christmas and New Year are not far away; dark foggy nights! The posing season is now over, much too quickly.  The weather here can be quite unpredictable. One year the whole of the car park was under a foot of water and only two cars occupied the whole car park. Last time here it was sunny and warm, and this year the weather forecast was dull, - and delivered accordingly, a dry overcast day with occasionally sunny spurts, no water.  Temperatures were forecast as overcoats, but required removal of at least one layer on arrival. The sun however made photography difficult because the cars are parked either in dark shade and/or bright sunshine, so one is shooting into bright sunlight, with often disappointing results.

This year at this ultimate meeting we had a surprisingly low turnout of Members at 25 cars, mostly of the 'classic' genre, also two interesting motorcycles at differing ends of the age spectrum, and Chas with a fascinating bicycle with a frame likely to be at the very higher end of the pain spectrum. We were 9 cars down on last year but it was nice to note that a number of 'new' cars were present at this meeting confirming that new Members who that joined during the summer are becoming regular attendees. Another successful meeting!
