The Historic Commercial
Vehicle Society and the Surrey Vintage Vehicle Society had many links in
the early days and many original and current members of the SVVS, who have
commercial vehicles, are also members of the HCVS. The current chairman of
the HCVS Fraser Clayton has been a long standing member of the SVVS. The
Southern Section of the HCVS has previously held similar 'bring a
vehicle' evenings at the nearby Jolly Farmer Inn in Horne, which used to
be the SVVS winter headquarters. This venue in Newchappel is new to the
HCVS and it was a great success, with plenty of room for expansion. The
entry was free to the public and and many came in their vintage and
classic machinery including quite a large contingent from the SVVS. The
venue, though relatively remote, was well equipped with a drinks bar, a
coffee bar, a burger bar and and a fish & chip bar. Plenty of sitting
areas and plenty of shade on what was a very lovely evening. Being on the
landing flightpath of Gatwick, we were even treated to the spectacle of
the of the Airbus flying double-decker at tree height. Noisy ! Please
