:: [ SVVS Dinner - Reigate Manor Hotel, Reigate - April 2023 ] ::

Photos by  Bozi Mohacek

Reigate Manor Hotel was again the venue for the Annual SVVS Dinner and was superbly officiated over by our Chairman Malcolm Bailey and his wife Sheena. The date for the event was bought forward  this year and was again  held in the 'Garden Room'. The room has an intimate feel about it and plenty big enough to accommodate the 67 SVVS Members and Guests who attended.

The normal evening  procedure was again followed of first meeting at the bar, this time the smaller 'Study Bar', and then being called to the dining area by the Master of Ceremonies, Tony Russell. There we were welcomed by Chairman Malcolm who thanked everybody for coming and also welcomed the Guest Speaker Alan Winn.

Not much could be faulted with the quality of the meal and the efficiency of the service which smoothly bought us unnoticeably to the ceremonial bit of the evening, the presentation of the SVVS Awards. The PRESIDENT'S CUP for "Services to the SVVS" was presented to the SVVS Magazine Editor Malcolm Ward who had just produced the 75th issue. The CHAIRMAN'S CUP was carried over from last year as due to the change of the Dinner date, the new Hunt had not yet been held. The HERO CUP was awarded to Chas Moody for the restoration of his 1924 Francis Barnett Zarabout. The Quiz Award was to be presented to Zak Stiling for again winning the Quiz, but as he was not able to attend, he held onto it from winning it last year.

We were lucky to have Alan Winn as our Guest Speaker (on the right of the first picture below with our Chairman Malcolm Bailey) who gave a witty speech of his life and travels, and also his time as one of the Directors of the Brooklands Museum where he is also one of the very few people who is privileged enough to be able to drive the mighty Napier-Railton, the aero engined racing car (in the picture behind him). Although there was no official raffle held this year, we donated £200 to his charity, which was the Brooklands Museum.
