It should be admitted that our
visit to the Cock at Headly was not exactly a raging
success.
This was our first official outside meeting of the year held as usual in
mid March, and it was to a new venue. It must be said that the weather was pretty grim and cloudy but
that it did not actually rain while there. In the event only four
'classic' cars turned out and a handful of moderns.
The Cock Inn is run by an ebullient Mother and Daughter team providing wonderful
ambiance and fabulous grub. Hence the problem. Not a drinker’s pub, more a gastro
pub, - which was not problem this time because most of the people who
came wanted to eat and had booked tables. Landlady had also kept some
back for us, which was very thoughtful. Lots of
tables and extensive menu.
Swamped in the large two level mostly empty car park were the 1956
Lancia Appia of Will How, 1975 Opel Manta Coupe of Hon Sec Malcolm
Bailey, 1984 Jaguar XJS V12 of Chairman Bozi Mohacek, some sort of fast
Dagenham Dustbin of Hon Publicity Officer Tony Russell, Tony Tester's
Chrysler Cold Rod (well it is open so it must be cold) and 1972 MGB
Roadster of Alan Rothwell. Mr and Mrs Chris Cuss came in a modern
because it was threatening to rain, as did Roger Bishop and Co who
thought they better come in a 4 x 4 just in case. Three other moderns
bought three other SVVS couples. All together, 20 SVVS people
came.
The Cock Inn is a lovely place but seems to be very much s Sunday
lunchtime eatery with lots of full tables and waiters. It appears
mandatory to book a table if intending to eat. Tyre kicking facilities
in the car park could not be tried out with any significance because
most SVVS Members were eating, also because of the inclement weather and
great shortage of SVVS cars and Members. Perhaps better luck next time.
