A number of SVVS Members have cars that are eligible for the London to Brighton Veteran Car. This year there were two official entries. Michael Doughty is a regular participant, this year wearing start number 146. His car is a 1902 Wolseley 10HP Tonneau.  Another regular participant is David Smart with start number 600. This is a 1905 Cadillac 9HP Limousine which has 'Grandfather's Rights'. The one with two legs and uneven wheels is Matt Tester on his Penny-Farthing 'Ordinary'.

It is a long way to Brighton, whatever the means of transport, official or not!

Some of the SVVS Members who have been spectating on the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run normally meet up later at the Black Horse in Hookwood, Horley, for a noggin and natter. This year the weather for the Run was glorious but very cold. The sun shone, sky was blue but brass monkeys were much in evidence. There was a low turnout of general spectators along the route, which was a shame. The Run may possibly be losing its appeal due to the dreadful traffic but the additional nippy weather was not conducive to standing still out in the cold !

This year the turnout of SVVS Members at the Black Horse was also low, only seven vehicles. Present were the 1951 Austin A40 of John Morgan, the 1986 Ford Capri of Ian Maclennan, the 1980 Triumph Spitfire of Brian Rice,  the 1960 Jaguar XK150 Fixedhead Coupe of John Wickens, the 1966 Triumph Herald Convertible of Ralf Thompson, and the pozermobile 1984 Jaguar V12 XJS belonging to the Chairman. Also there was a rather immaculate 1957 Sunbeam in-line twin 500cc Motorcycle belonging to a new member.

After an hour or so of pleasant chat with friends, the Chairman made his way back home in the XJS whose air conditioning suddenly decided to go into full cooling mode despite the freezing conditions outside and could not be persuaded in any way that winter is the time for heating; this after having spent most of the summer in constant full heat mode!!
